Gentoo-Wiki has the answer!

I already decided I wanted to run Gentoo on my new soon-to-be superwebserver...

But, I needed to do quite some configuration, of which a lot was new to me… So normally that’s a sure way of spending a lot of time behind the console… Well, in this case, Gentoo-Wiki had the answer! This article in particular… So I’m already up&running with RAID1+ReiserFS+LVM2 (that’s mirroring, resizable partitions and a journaling filesystem…) Now I need to get to grips with UML (User Mode Linux) and we’re completely ready to go (and colocate this baby!)

AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 released?

UPDATE I’ve been hiding this post, since I soon found out this CPU was still under NDA… woops :-)

This was laying on my desk today :-)

I’m sorry for the poor picture, I made it with my Nokia…
it has ADAFX57…(something) as code, if it known this pic sucked so much, I’d written it down…

But I can’t find it on AMD’s website or anywhere else… :-)

It will carry a hefty pricetag, that’s for sure (check the FX-55…)

HDR lighting

Geez… just take a look at this:

These are Half-Life2-models rendered into real-life pictures and I think they’re awesome…

server-modding

So, did you really really think a new geektechnique-server would be complete without some modding? Naaaaaaaah, of course not… :-)

So, read all about it on the projectpage...

dual Xeon, on y va!

Some first pics of my new webserver :-)

...and geez do I want to colocate this thing! I mean, this is not the first time I work on a 19” server or such, but in your livingroom or kitchen the amount of noise this thing makes seems twice as big as in a datacenter :-)

ADDED So, how much noise does it make? Well, something like this (mpg, 5MB) ...and the music you hear in the beginning is quite loud I can tell you ;-)

Manholes of Japan...

manholes…

A hole through which a man may descend or creep into a drain, sewer, steam boiler, parts of machinery, etc., for cleaning or repairing.

you know… those holes in the ground, for firemen and such… overhere they’re just dull and go unnoticed, but look at how they look in Japan…

Unfortunate Star Wars costumes

Well… now I’m just wondering… were there also people dressed in unfortunate costumes waiting in the infamous wrong line? ;-)
