Inflection Point

(a quick post, since I’m travelling right now and don’t have much time)... One killercolumn from Robert X. Cringely:

Inflection Point

This Week Changed the World of High Tech
Forever, Though Most of Us Still Don’t Know It

...And Microsoft? Microsoft kicks the dog… :-)

These self-replicating robots are all over the place right now (media-wise)... video

But, personally I find these first discussing then slapping robots much more interesting…

pages: 157804
bandwidth: 12.43GB

take a look at imho the most interesting statistic…

...and 16.2% uses IE! (probably at the wrong site… ;-) )

vintage cover gallery

This could be a follow-up to my Love Goddess issue-post… I have no clue whatsoever what it has to do with my page, but does that matter? enjoy :-)

slashdotted!

Well, rant along in the comments if you will… but getting slashdotted makes me happy! :-)

even when the webserver has had it moments… I guess I hit the ceiling several times :-) (but this being hosted on a sub-$100 ‘stuff-I-had-laying-around’ webserver you won’t hear me complain one bit)

Somehow unwillingly I’m in the middle of a MySQL-poweruser-bootcamp-from-hell… Well, I think I got it tackled now… but we’ll see… if MySQL acts up, enjoy my 404, it keeps the /.-crowd happy as it seems (it draws 4x the traffic my original article does LOL)

finished my encrypted fileserver!

Well… I guess it’ll never be finished, but still… Finally it is as I imagined it a while ago…

The machine (named scramjet):
(actually, I should’ve called it Tonino...)

So, what is it?

I now have a fully-encrypted fileserver in my closet, which means that all the data that’s on there, actually can’t be found physically on the server :-) To be more precise, the data you copy to the server gets encrypted and the data you read from it gets decrypted, all on-the-fly…

And the sugar-on-top on this one is that it’s now got a webinterface for uploading torrent-files to it (or parse the URL’s) and it starts downloading(&encrypting) them.

The webinterface (of TorrentFlux and that’s a legal torrent...):

The complete projectpage with additional info on this fileserver can be found here

Larry on Symbian S60

Ha! Leisure Suit Larry on my phone! :-)

I played this on a 10MHz 8086 XT in black&white(orange actually) about 17 years ago and it runs smoother and in full colour (that’s probably CGA) on my phone now :-)
