Got my mojo back!

...or at least a workstation so I can post here :-)

I’ve been quite busy the last couple of days, but in between I managed to also install Gentoo on my old-workstation-from-the-outside-but-new-on-the-inside and I’m totally over the moon with it!

4 CPU’s in software and it compiles like there’s no tomorrow! (and I haven’t even started overclocking yet…)

...and modding the coolers...

Well… I already had it planned anyway, so why not do it immediately?... So tonight I took my workstation apart and did the G_M_C-mod :-)

clicking the picture gets you an 1024×768-version

Lots of pictures of this mod… (projectpage)

workstation-blues (2)

...My coolers for my new workstation still haven’t arrived and since I want to get some work done… I thought I’d grab something I do have laying around and at the moment that’s a MSI MS-9211 1U-barebone with a P4 2.4GHz and 512MB…

So, along with a Knoppix Live-CD this is my workstation at the moment… :-)

FX-57 introduced and then some...

Well… I was just a little too early with my post about an AMD FX-57… (like 3 weeks early while still under NDA)... wooops! ;-)

Anyway, now the FX-57 is officially introduced so here’s a review… correct me, the review, where it’s benchmarked against an AMD dual-core 4200+ and an AMD 3800+... This all happened on my own desk at my work, since that’s the place where these CPU’s where laying :-)

Some additional images:

The testrig:
Coolermaster Stacker-case
600 watt Enermax Noisetaker-PSU
Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI motherboard
2x XFX 6800 Ultra 512MB (yes, twice 512MB)
2×512MB Crucial PC3200
2x Samsung 160GB SATA2 in RAID0

Which results in an out-of-the-box 3DMark 2005-score of 10444 points!

workstation-blues

Well… how about that? I’m without a proper workstation at the moment… to be honest, this is my current workstation:

So, what happened to my old one? Well… I made a Battlefield 2 dedicated gameserver out of it, for some collegues

And I’m waiting for a sh*tload of hardware to arrive, to build myself a new workstation… :-)

Actually, the last parts that I’m waiting for, are these coolers...

I came across a review with the exact same hardware as I’m getting… Asus NCCH-DL, Coolermaster E3W-NPTXS-04, Xeon 2.4/533’s (SL73L) and I must say I’m already very pleased with the results they get…

I mean… 2×3.6GHz out of 2.4GHz Xeons? OMG, if I’m able to get even half of that I’ll be completely over the moon! :-) (it’s worth wating a few days for…)

Chinese Factory Worker Can't Believe...

...The Shit He Makes For Americans

FENGHUA, CHINA—Chen Hsien, an employee of Fenghua Ningbo Plastic Works Ltd., a plastics factory that manufactures lightweight household items for Western markets, expressed his disbelief Monday over the “sheer amount of shit Americans will buy.”

“How can anyone have a need for such useless shit?”

YubNub command line for the web

Oooeh! this looks interesting! Surf the web by command line (and for once in another fashion than using lynx...)

...But on a bigger scale, YubNub is the realization of a very big idea: the URL command line of the web OS....

F1 killing itself?

I’m into motorsports this weekend and for the first time in months I watch a Formula One race live… but look at the start… six cars! All the teams with Michelin-tyres aren’t driving…

Live: Crisis-hit US Grand Prix

...Paul Stoddart, teamboss of Minardi, is pretty clear in what he thinks about the whole situation…

This is not a race, this is a farce … The FIA needs to get a grip with iitself and sort it’s sport out, before there’s no f**kin’ sport to sort out…

...and six cars finished…

Schumacher doesn’t know what to think I guess…

Well, this’ll be in the news coming days, so back to some geekstuff!
