adjusting an IIyama CRT (part 2)

A couple of years back, I already adjusted my CRTs, to get them as much alike as I could possibly get them. That has worked out the last couple of years, I enjoyed my dual-CRT desktop very much, but lately it seemed the quality degraded very quick and/or there started to become a big(ger) difference in between the two monitors. So I had to adjust/calibrate them again, probably for a last time, since there’s yummy stuff on the TFT-front and that keeps getting better. I just want to tweak out every bit of life in my current CRTs before I switch… Prices of TFTs keep coming down and specs/quality keep going up so I’m gonna step into that only if I have no choice left…

I had an Apple Cinemadisplay here for a week, not too long ago and really, I hardly worked on that because even after a couple of hours I looked at my CRTs and wondering what was wrong with them (nothing of course, but the contrast between such a display and my aged/worn Trinitron-CRTs is huge…). Anyways, let’s focus on the CRTs for a last time, shall we?

...my current desktop…

...these are out of warranty for sure…

...removing the base…

...and the screws…

...Even though this should be the last adjustment I have to make to these, chances are I need to adjust them more often than before and somehow I don’t mind going a little dramatic with these CRTs, so I left the skins off…

...I adjusted the right CRT, with controls which can be found on the left-backside… I forgot to take a picture, but I still got a picture from 2 years ago… here, I painted a blue circle around the focus/brightness controls… There are three potmeters, two of them seem to adjust the focus and one of them the brightness.

Adjusting an IIyama CRT (part one) (all the pics from two years ago)

...here you can see there’s nothing wrong with placing these CRTs on a flat surface, the PCB isn’t touching anything, thanks to the spacers.

...and both of my CRTs, photographed from the underside (possible because I have a glass desk…)

...well, I actually wanted to go more dramatic with these CRTs, removing the front bezel as well, but I need to replace it with something else then. There’s no frame for holding the inner stuff together. I’m thinking of making a plexiglass frontbezel for both of them, but I’ll have to see if I’m gonna do that. If anyone has any ideas, let’s hear them! ;-)

Anyways, I’m pretty sure I can work fine on these for the coming months, until I switch to TFTs…
